Knights of Columbus Contact: Grand Knight - 563-886-2545


 

St. Mary's chapter of the Knights of Columbus meets monthly in the garage building next to the parking lot. The national organization of the Knights of Columbus governs the chapter. The Knights have several projects, including the annual fish fry events during the Lenten season, the baseball bus trip to Milwaukee each August, tootsie roll sales and the Knights of Columbus Scholarship opportunity for graduating high school seniors.
 


Interested in Being a Knight of Columbus?
If you are not a KC, this might be a time to consider joining. Requirements are that you be a man of the parish, 18 years of age or older, a practicing Catholic and willing to give a little bit of your time. Knights of Columbus Scholarship

This award is open to all seniors whose families are members of St. Mary's Parish in Tipton, Iowa, regardless of what school district they attend. This award is not limited to children or grandchildren of current or former members of KC Council #11468 Tipton.

Three recipients will be awarded each years. The selection committee has the discretion to award a fourth scholarship if warranted. The amount of the scholarship will depend upon the current financial status of Council #11468. Recipients will be awarded their scholarship with a personal check from Knights of Columbus Council #11468 after successful completion of the first semester of coursework at any accredited post-secondary institution. Proof of enrollment in the seconds semester of coursework will be required.

Scholarship Selection Criteria:
The selection committee will use the following three criteria to select each year's recipient:
1. Personal Essay - 75%
2. Applicant is a son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter of Council #11468 Knights of Columbus Member - 20%
3. Intended institution of study is affiliated with the Catholic Church - 5%

What is included in the application?
The application should include your name, parent's name, address, phone and the post-secondary institution you will attend in the fall. The personal essay should be in your own handwriting, explaining the importance of your spiritual faith to you. Give examples of how you have tried to live that faith. Be specific on things such as mass participation, participation in religious retreats, faith formation activities, volunteering at church activities, etc. How do you plan to demonstrate your continued commitment to Christian life as a practicing Catholic on the campus of your place of study?
